sorry, but if I had to choose between giving away my cats (that I've had longer) or a new puppy, I'd either work my butt off to train the cats or get rid of the dog. but that might just be me. I know it would be very hard, not saying it would be an easy decision, but I wouldn't rehome the cats because they don't like a new pet.
anyway, best of luck! It can be harder to find a home for adult cats, especially ones that have to go together! It's great that you took them in when your roomie abandoned them. Maybe you should try PetFinder.com ? let us know how it all works out!
