How common is it for Yorkies to be too tall & thin? Mine appears that way at this stage? I see so many posts about them getting long but I really think mine is getting tall. She seems very delicate and small for her height.
I also wondered if anyone knows if this propensity for producing pups that exceed the breed standard is common among all breeds or just seems to be a Yorkie trait. For instance if you were to purchase a toy poodle pup, does it frequently grow to be a miniature instead?
I am coming to the conclusion that we as owner/purchasers are a lot of the problem. If we refused to pay the exorbitant prices that breeders ask for their "teacups", maybe they would be more truthful on their "guestimates". I'm afraid by our obsession with smaller is better/cuter, that we encourage them to underestimate the pups predicted size and maybe even in some cases sell underage pups to make it appear that they will be small dogs.
In all honesty, in most cases, we should put our vanity and selfishness aside and be rescuing the dogs from the shelters that other irresponsible breeders/owners have produced and failed to give proper care & attention.
