Thank you all for your advice. Gus is doing better and I *think* he is getting the idea of paper training, although he much prefers to go outside. I would like him to be paper trained as well b/c the winters here can be cold. he is also getting used to his crate and really seems to like it now. He even went all night last night with no accidents.
