I agree, and mostly raising kids is the same way. I see too often (and have made the same mistakes.) You have to stop and think to yourself, "Am I rewarding bad behavior?" Like people who complain about their dogs jumping on people when the owner pets the dog when it jumps on them. It's sending them mixed messages. Or in kids cases when they throw a tantrum over wanting candy at the store and the parent goes ahead and buys them the candy. Doing this just REWARDS them! But if my son is GOOD when we go to the store I suggest to him that he can pick something out when we're checking out.
