My daughter is a 5th grade teacher and they have 2 parent nights. The first is the week before school starts, where the parents can come and "just talk" to the teacher about anything.
Then, during the second week of school, they have curriculum night, where each teacher does a formal presentation of the curriculum for the year. I think it may be required. She doesn't like the curriculum night, she always complains about it - not sure why though.
