 Out and about
My trainer wanted me to get Max's rabies shots as early as possible because she said that there's a "window" during which they socialize well. He's been vaccinated since 8/25 and I took him to doggie day care for a few hours. He cried when I took him home. He was so over me! Since then, he's been to 2 different parks and only showed aggression towards a couple of very gentle big dogs in a dog park. They were fine with him and he had a very good time. He may have been frightened, or maybe he's just got a big mouth. The only thing is that I won't let him off the leash yet. He's too inexperienced around other animals and so small that I'm afraid he can get through the fence posts at the dog park. I met a couple with a sweet Pomerian who tried Max on their extendable leash. It worked great and I'm going to get him one.
The best part of the doggie day care for me was that he learned to go outside. I thought I was going to have to take him out with his wee wee pads and teach him, but I guess he watched the other dogs. Less work for mommy!
