I used a large crate. I lined the inside with cardboard so that when puppies started roaming they would get caught in the between the slats. I then put a sheepskin type on the floor and a bed. The crate opened out into an x-pen so that Emilee could go on the pee pads and eat. The crate door was shut at night and when we were not home so that she wouldn't try to find another place for her puppies. As far as I was concerned it was a perfect set up for us.
