I think Yorkies just get soooooo focused when they are in tearassin' mode that they don't HEAR any command. And if they do, they assume that what they are doing is MUCH too important to stop doing. They are pretty fearless when in tearassin' mode and probably would take on a truck!
We just don't let Higgins run around offlead without us outside with him. He is waaaaaaaay too fast for us, so when we hear/see a car coming down our ol' dirt road, we get the pups right up by us, preferably in hand. The best control we have is Pogo. I can call Higgins and he will absolutely ignore me. But when I call Pogo, I not only promptly get good ol' Pogo, but Higgins comes right with him so he doesn't miss out on anything. I tell you, the best dog trainer in the world is a good ol' dog who is already trained! |
