Oh, I doubt they'll always do that. "Broken ear" is certainly not a technical term. Its just what my neighbors think it looks like, so they tell him his little ear looks broken. It usually only happens when he's outside running. Ears are a mystery to me!!!! But I love my Otis's down ears.
