If you start feeding canned, it will be hard to switch back to dry. Dry is much better for their teeth, but you could brush every day to help with this problem. Feeding dry is so much more convenient and you don't have the risk of any bacteria developing on the wet food when left out for more than 20 minutes. I free feed mine leaving dry out all the time and so far I have never had any weight problems.

I would recommend soaking the dry food with warm water for now so he doesn't develop a taste for just canned. Then when he gets a little older you can stop moistening it and it will be the same taste he is use to.
