I think their philosophy with keeping Janelle this long is that as long as she is there, everyone is going after her and not them. But they also know (I think) that they've got to get rid of her before long, or she'll end up winning the whole thing because she's a good player in the challenges (but I think they're smarter than her). I don't think either one of them are really into the "showmances".....but the girls don't realize that.
