Default New at potty training

I'm in "study mode"... I'll get my new yorkie babe in about 3 or 4 weeks. I plan on crate trng but haven't decided on pads or outside. I'd prefer
both. How do you do both outside and pads? same time or one at a time? Plus, all the books say feed outside the crate. My breeder recommends leaving food in crate to prevent hypocycemia. I'll be with him for a couple of days before I have to go to work...but will come home three times during the day (about every 3 hrs) for a while. Also, how do you crate train at night? still out every 3 or 4 hours? and how long? I thought about making a night crate and a day crate. Any experience with this? (I did that with my children so they knew to sleep longer in the night bed). I'm full of questions. Need help from you experts!!!
