I would think at this stage she would be waddling by now and you would be able to feel the pups moving easily just by placing your hand on her belly. How big is the Mom? If she is large and has only one pup then maybe what your describing is normal.

Hi Lacy's mom,
Lexi is normally 5 1/2 lbs - now she is 6 1/2 lbs.
When the Vet was feeling her belly when she was 4 1/2 weeks along, he said she was swollen & he thought he felt a puppy (98% sure).
My male is small (4 lbs). Maybe only one puppy in the rib area.
I will check out the websites you suggested.
