Studies are currently underway (and already have been done in Europe) to show that rabies shots are effective for way more then 2 years. From my reserach, I believe 1 shot is only needed in the life if a dog but that is my opinion. 2years...I don't believe in that.
You can research online and find that 29..or 28 states have admitted that vaccines are not needed that often BUT to appease the veterinary practices they have said you need them every 3 years. You don't "need" them every 3 years BUT they were trying to strike a compromise so that vets do not lose so much money. I have the article here somewhere and it is online.
Rabies is one of the toughest shots with the most side effects (although some are hard to prove). Seizures have happened to a lot of my pet friends after this shot. :-(
