Mandee, I don't want to scare you, but I just want to tell you that we thought my yorkie had a UTI as well, same symptoms as your pup so they did the urinalysis and urine culture, but they weren't able to identify a bacteria. They also found a couple of little crystals in his urine. That worried me but the vet said to give him antibiotics and he'd be fine. Well he got better.
A couple of months later, the same thing happened again, but this time, I read up on this. I had the vet do a bile acid test along with the urine tests, just to see if his liver enzymes were elevated which could indicate a liver shunt, and they were! I had them do this as a precautionary thing, not because I really thought he had a shunt. The urine thing was his only symptom.
It's a good idea to bile acid test your pup just in case, it's like $50-$60, but it will give you peace of mind. |
