That sounds promising, being playful is good, perhaps if you tire him out by playing, it'll increase his appetite a bit. Also, just make sure he doesn't shake from not having any food or anything in his system.

Oh, and also, I don't know how attached he is to his Mom, but your wife being away may have made him depressed a bit, and yes, our little ones can get depressed...
