Thank you for your words of wisdom. I'm not exactly a newbie though (new to Yorkies but not to puppy buying). I was a vet tech for 6 years and have been studying dogs for about 15 years. I know the CKC is a worthless registry, and I have no intentions of purchasing a CKC registered pup, so if that is what these are, I will not be getting one. I also will not be buying a puppy without a health cert, partly because it is required by LAW in Florida. But I am also not going to drop a grand on a dog. I will do my research, talk to the breeder, and decide if the pup is worth purchasing. I would love to be able to get a Yorkie from a rescue, but often the rescues are too strict about what type of family they adopt to, and it is hard to find a dog in rescue I am interested in anyway.
I learned a lesson several years ago when I bought a Golden Retriever from a supposed good breeder. The dogs were AKC and we thought everything was great, but the dog we got turned out to be a very poor representation of the breed as well as having an eating disorder. So I am going to be much more careful now about who I get a puppy from. |
