We always waited until they were at least a few months old and had their potty training under control. I probably concentrated more on wondering if I would find a present for me in the morning then anything else.....lol. I can definitely understand your worrying about him falling off though, as they are pretty small and fragile. The pillow ideas sound good to me. Perhaps you could cuddle in bed with him a bit as things are winding down for the evening then crate him next to your bed so he knows you are still close until he is a little bigger. Good luck to you.
