When my kids were younger, we had a cat that got very sick with a kidney problem. It was a stray that we took in and had for several years. We spent tons of money keeping him healthy, but he eventually got too sick. The vet recommended putting him to sleep. My kids were young and were heartbroken. The vet let the kids come in and spend some time with the cat and say goodbye, which I thought was really nice. It was so sad.
