Its not too expensive. They take a small fee (like $0.30) then a percent. So on a $40 item it might be like $3 to $4 or so. Not bad. Just make sure you account for the fees.
On ebay and paypal check the fees charged page for the details.
I just sold a car on ebay a few weeks ago. Fees are different for cars than small items but it was worth the cost to me.
