Default I've got a runner!!!

Otis is 2 years old. He's gotten out a few times. Once through a gap in the fence (now fixed with chix wire) and twice because people held doors open too long. (while taking their shoes off, or talking to someone outside) My boy TAKES OFF. He hits high gear and never looks back. He's off to hunt and have adventures. Thankfully, I have never lost sight of him and after much exasperation always tricked him into coming back. Once, after chasing him forever, I was exhausted, and he had his butt in the air and was having a great time. Little did he know how close we were to a highway. He thought we were playing. Finally, I just turned away from him and started walking fast. He followed right behind me and I was able to catch him. I'm hoping it gets better as he gets older. Can anyone confirm or deny that? I still have to go out and get him when it's time to come in. He used to run from me then too, but now he lets me pick him up and bring him in. We never really mastered the "come" command. Please someone tell me it gets better as he gets older. I'm a nervous wreck when people come in and out of my front door.
