Mojo is normally being carried or on a harness, BUT around the hosue (we live in the country - which still isn't safe), he will "run free".
He as honestly never "ran" off before, so I can't see what I would do or what he would do in that circumstance!
He has followed our two outside dogs, but luckily, they are great guard dogs and have come back home (one in the lead and one behind Mojo - it is pretty funny) - but my heart swells knowing that they are there helping him.
He has ran ahead of us on our walking trail (that goes around most of our 30 acres), but he will stop and wait or come back because he is tired of waiting for us slow-pokes! Sometimes, if we run after him, he LOVES it and thinks it is a game, so his tail sticks straight up and off he goes. He will (think) he is hiding behind a tree and pounce at us when we get close and off he runs again. On the occassion of us getting tired (which is often - wish I had his energy), we have to tell him to come and then to come NOW before he finally comes. - He still wants to play, ya know?!
I would be afraid to let him off leash in a public, open spot though! And of course, I don't know what he would do if he got out of the car or got loose while on vacation somewhere. The times we have had to stop to eat with him, it was either a fast food drive thru or one of us going in to order and the other staying in the car.
It is funny and neat to see how they are all different. I think if given the chance, Mojo would be a clinger, but then, if the mood is right, I think he would dash. I don't know though! I think he would be a follower - you know, if one dog takes off, so would he - just because he would have to see what is going on or be with the "group" - oh now! I'm going to have to let him know that it is okay not to "run" with the group!!! and do everything the others do! hee,hee
