Ginger will run, unless I turn and run the other way, lol. Seriously, she's only ever off lead in one place. My securely fenced back yard, I would never chance it anywhere else because I'm not sure what she'd do.
Well, now that's not entirely true. Occasionally if we're walking on some of the local trails (no vehicles allowed) I'll drop her leash. She never gets more than about 50 feet ahead before she runs back to me or stops and watches me catch up. And she's always run right back when I call her. Don't think she wants to lose me.
My shihtzu NEVER took off. Back when I had her, I never leashed her in our yard and we didn't have a fence. I could be out there for hours, weeding or whatever, and there she'd be, usually laying in the mulch in the shade of some plant... |
