Giardia comes from drinking stale water. Either run off from a farm or water that has pocketed itself in the yard. It can also come from a dog licking another dogs behind or poop.
The shots for Giardia are not a part of the usual shots. You do need to ask for it and it does not protect the dog from the illness, but it does drastically reduce the affect that the virus has on the dog. I would recommend getting your doggies vaccinated.
