Oh, boy, I'm odd-man-out on this one. I really, really disagree!!!

Dogs may not get that same pleasure from relationships that we get, but OF COURSE dogs have sex for pleasure. Male dogs have erections and orgasms exactly like men have, don't they? Why would that not be pleasurable for them? Sex can be quite pleasurable even in the absence of a relationship, can't it?

I think that dogs hump because it feels good. I don't think it's a dominance issue at all!

Now, as for Myriamha's question - do they need to have sex for their health? No, I don't think so. But the desire is there. Neutering drastically reduces their levels of testosterone which reduces the desire (which reduces humping behavior).
