I had to respond to you. My Otis, a.k.a. houdini, got out of a ridiculously small space between the fence and gate post. I was home on my lunch break when this happened. After 30 minutes of panic, chasing, diving for him, and sheer terror that I wasn't going to get him back, I started walking away from him and he followed me and I was able to grab him. After work that evening I bought an entire huge roll of chicken wire and did a thorough inspection of my entire chain link fence. And, I won't let him run in someone else's fenced in yard until I walk all the way around it. He's just too much to lose, I'm not taking any chances. I totally related to your "drunk carpenter" comment. It cracked me up.
