I'm not a pad fan so I can't help you there. Just wanted to say that we live in the Chicago Suburbs and Loki's done 1 1/2 winters now. He loves the snow. If I put a coat on him I can't get him back inside. He's not a rain fan and we had trouble before he was fully trained but now it's not a problem - he just goes out quickly and comes back in. Sometimes he cheats and goes in the mulch next to the porch when he doesnt want to go in the soggy grass, but if i tell him to go in the yard he will. Oh, and if the snow is deep we just sweep or shovel part of the yard. It helps that my husband loves the little guy
