It's true....I had never, ever, ever even tapped one of my pets before, but when Schatzi was like 8 months old she ran away from me into the street.... I desperately called her and chased after her, but she kept running away from me. I kept screaming, stop, stop, but she kept running. Well, a truck BARELY missed her and I ran to her crying like a baby and I wasn't sure what to do.....and between tears I spanked her and said, "no Schatzi, no!". I felt soooo bad afterwards.....because she whimpered.....gosh... it was so sad....
The only good thing that came from that was that whenever I want her to stop immediately I just say, "stop" and she'll IMMEDIATELY stop in her tracks and turn to look at me.....so spanking DOES work....but mostly out of fear, not necessarily respect
