  We have a very large yard, too.  I understand what you are talking about.  But he'd take off eventually and then you'd be sorry.  It's soooo much better to be safe than sorry.  I think the peace of mind would be worth so much.  We have a nice size area fenced for her and it has become HERS.  Those darn birds and squirrels better keep out!

  If it isn't too hot and I'm out working in the unfenced yard, I'll put a 25 foot leash on her and secure around something nearby.  Of course, I have to untwist her every so often, because she keeps going in circles and the leash keeps getting shorter!
