I can only tell you what works for me; I tip the ends of a coat monthly, until it reaches the ground and past when it requires actual trimming. Brushing the coat daily is not recommended. It was told to me that brushing a dirty coat causes more damage. The actual secret to growing a good coat is keeping it clean.
