The active ingredient is grapefruit seed extract (GSE). I have an aviary and bird breeders have been using GSE for years as a safe disinfectant for handfeeding equipment and adding to drinking water to keep it bacteria free. It kills bacteria on contact, but only destroys bad bacteria, not the good. That is why it instantly freshens dog's breath. I mix GSE with the water for the baby bird food formula and feed it to my parrotlets to reduce the danger of bacteria and sour crop. I have given it daily to parrotlets the size of the tip of your pinky with only positive results.
