Swimming is an excellent source of exercise!

My maltese is recovering from LP surgery and I put on his life jacket which has a handle on the top and just hold him while he paddles away......

He also has a walking schedule which we've been doing for the past 6 weeks and will continue for the next 2 1/2 weeks. Restricted stair climbing is included with the use of support for the back legs.

I see you're in Colorado......was this your regular Vet or an Orthopaedic Surgeon who fixed his leg? Here in NJ most Orthopaedic's have a Physical Therapist in their office who sets up the Rehab Schedule for your pet.

It really is important to rebuild the muscle/ligaments around the broken bone to provide added support during the healing process. The healing process continues long after the cast is removed.

Call around and see if you can find a Physical Therapist - to be honest, I could not afford to take Chan in 3X a week and they had NO problem giving me detailed instructions on his rehab. I have even called with a few questions and they've answered them and given a few more suggestions.

Good Luck to you....
