I think anything you can do that will distract them when they are misbehaving is effective. That is why the pennies in a can thing works when they are barking. According to the Dog Whisperer Cesar Milan, breaking a dog out of his concentration when he/she is doing something wrong, gets the attention back to you and then you can correct them. He uses the "shhh" sound to break them out of bad behavior and follows it with a quick correction. That is exactly what you are doing when you shake the bottle and say "no bite". You distract her, then you correct her. Good for you, you were acting like a true dog behaviorist and didn't even know it!!
