Please don't EVER let him get away with that type of behavior! You're only asking for more trouble....
For the time being ALL FOOD is to be handfed to him by you, your husband, children, anyone you can find. Do not leave his food bowl down and do not give him a whole jerky treat - break that into pieces and hand feed that too.
If he has any special toys that he plays with start practicing the give command with them. Say he has his toy in his mouth playing, hold out your hand and say give. Do it until he lets you take the toy from his mouth.
Eventually you will be able to do the same thing with his food.
