I hate that his poor little head never gets a break but it seems like he'd be so uncomfortable with his hair everywhere.

I think given the option, Oscar would much prefer the hair in his eyes, mouth, wherever - anwhere other than in an elastic. I take it out at night and he's just going to sleep anyways, so it doesn't really matter what his hair does. He's gotten into a routine now where when we get into bed he'll come up beside me and put his head down and paw at his ponytail as if to say "it's time mummy, take 'er out!". I then give his little head a massage and he LOVES it - it must feel sooo good. The next morning, the hair goes back up. I used to struggle quite a bit with Oscar trying to get him to sit still while i put his hair up, so I used to keep it in for a couple days at a time - when I started taking it out at night, I found it became easier to put in each day - as if he was ok with it if he knew that it wouldn't be left in for days and he'd get a break.
