Well, first of all, if you haven't noticed, I didn't want to name my dogs any kind of name that is "popular" or conventional or used a lot. And my hubby didn't want to name them anything "fru fru." So, hubby and I had many arguements and discussions over these names, so I appreciate you asking about them!
So, we got Hobbs primarily from the cartoon Calvin & Hobbes. There is also a historical philosopher named Thomas Hobbes, which the cartoon character was actually named after, but most people aren't aware of that. (The character Calvin was named after John Calvin.) We took the "e" in the middle out of the name because we didn't want people calling him "Hobbies."
As for Hootie, a nice lady on YT, Oscar's Mom, actually suggested the name. I had a list of names that I liked and I posted them on YT to get votes from people to see which one I should pick. On the list was "Tootie." So, Oscar's Mom suggested that I name her Hootie, since the "H" would go well with Hobbs. My hubby and I both LOVED it, so that is how we got Hootie!
