Actually, no. The opposite is true. If it is said on TV, I would be less inclined to believe it. The likelyhood of something serious like that being announced on TV is rather minute because it would cause mass panic, which would be the last thing governments or wealthy people want. Think about it, if the world was coming to an end in a couple of weeks, there would be total anarchy. Who'd care about the laws when you are going to die anyway?
Believe it or not, what is broadcast on TV is very specifically designed to create a certain effect. They have much to gain from keeping people full of fear. There are no valiant news reporters that unearth hidden truths, because they only get paid to say what they have been told.
I am a big big Noam Chomsky fan, and I have been reading various analyses of media in the past 4 years. One thing I am sure of is that no media company would allow something of this magnitude to be broadcast if it were in fact true.
