I bought a Canon Digital Rebel 3 years ago and love it. I can get pictures as fast as I can press the shutter, and it also shoots in burst mode of 3 or so pictures a second.

I paid $1,000, but the same camera is down to $700 or so today. Nikon makes a great SLR for around $600.

The plus is the fast shutter speed and the fact that they use interchangeable lenses, i.e., you can buy telephotos and wide angles, etc. The downside is they're big and clunky. You can't tuck them in your purse. And telephoto lenses are expensive.

A trick for catching action on cheaper digitals is to press the shutter halfway and lock in the focus. Then when the dog hits the spot you're focused on, press it the rest of the way. It should be immediate.
Thank you for a tip we can all use!

Now.... did you buy the camera... really... or is it "borrowed" from a certain employer????? Just kidding!

Dan just got a new camera assigned to him from his work and it's a MONSTER! It's a Nikon D200 or is it D2000? He had a DX1 but just brought the new one home couple of nights ago. I'm scared to even touch the thing!
