1) One vet indicated that pain meds are not necessary to take home since they usually heal very quickly and experience no pain. Is that true?
2) I also spoke with another vet and the office people told me that lab work usually are not necessary for dogs under 1 year old because they are relatively healthy. Is that true as well?
3) what type of stitching is better? internal or external?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. I'm not looking forward to his surgery day

1) yes I think that it is necessary that you have meds...what if he starts hurting once he gets home?
2) stitching is what ever you perfer? just as long as you keep him calm!
3) not to worry you or anything..because it is a completly different vet- My vet actuall caused Tiny to have a collapsed trachea. They put to big of a stint in..Too big a tube when they put him to sleep...Now Tiny has a collapsed Trachea. I wish that I would have had X-rays done before the surgery, so that I would know for sure that they did...I know in the back of my mind that they did it but there was no way to prove it...Plus I signed the waver in the very beginning. All I'm saying is just make sure that they tell you how big of a tub they will be using...Just trust me...I know what I am talking about..And Tiny is my first furbaby and I have to watch him suffer now because of getting him fixed!
Last but not least 4) yes you should have lab work! its important to have!because if they don't then something could be wrong and if they would have done the lab work in the very beginning then they could have done it a different way. YES ..You should have it done..My current vet now won't do it without lab work. If you refuse...Then they refuse to fix them!
Good Luck! I'm not trying to scare you, just worn you of things that could happen...What to be aware of!
