I don't believe it is uncommon or irresponsible to give a shot of oxytocin to clean out the uterus. It causes contractions to force out all the pus and bacteria in the uterus to try to prevent a spay (which I think should be done at her age anyway because every heat cycle a uterine infection is a probability). For the injection to be effective the cervix must be open so the contents can be expelled which I am assuming it still is if she is having discharge. I am also assuming the discharge is foul smelling.
Do a search on pyrometra and you will see what you are up against. I personally would not waist the time or energy on treatment (or risk) and just have her spayed. |
