The same thing happened to me when I got "my" first dog. Even though he is "your" dog, does your mom or dad take care of him more than you do? For instance, who feeds him? potty trains him? takes him on walks? takes him outside? stays home with him during the day? bathes him? brushes him? takes him to the vet? ect....When I got my first dog, I was in high school school, and my mom stayed at home during the day. So, she was the one doing most of the potty training, giving her treats, taking her on walks, ect. So naturally, my dog took to my mom more than me. (Yorkies are definately one-person dogs.) She eventually started jumping out of my bed to sleep with my mom and dad. I was so sad. Then I went off to college. My mom told me that if I got there and found that I had time for a dog, then I could have "my" dog after being there for a few weeks. Well, I had my dog for a week and found out I just didn't have time for her. Sophie is now officially my parents' dog. Sophie is very happy and very spoiled. Now I am married and my hubby and I have 2 yorkies of our own. We still tell Sophie that she a very confused little girl bc she doesn't know WHO her mom is and she doesn't know if Hootie and Hobbs are her cousins or her siblings.

Sorry for the long story, but I would just let your little guy do whatever he wants. He is still YOUR dog, but at least it would relieve you of some responsibility if he takes to your parents more.
