I've always heard that the mounting was a way to establish dominance.

I have a 4 1/2 yo Yorkie (LittleFoot) who has never even tried to mount any of the dogs to my knowledge. I also have another Yorkie (Lancelot) who is 18 months old who has began mounting LittleFoot. My Maltie (Bear) has always tried mounting LittleFoot. Of couse, they are all male and have been neutered. LittleFoot will growl at them. When I see them I always scold them.

Vet says all perfectly normal, just depends on the dog.
