I hope your baby is feeling better. I crate train all my dogs and it is done in a manner that they enjoy being in their crates. They are never put in for punishment. I always gave them a treat when they were learning to go in and they associated it with a good thing. You have to leave them in a bit at a time at first, then gradually take them as long as needed. Now that Chewie is completely housebroken, he only sleeps in the crate at night. He doesn't mind it al all. My doxie who died at 13 years old, used to ask to go to bed. She would come sit up in front of me and I would look at the clock and sure enough, it would be about 9pm. She would follow me to the pantry, then run right to her crate for her cookie and her bedtime. A lot of times it is a much safer option for the puppy. I hope I have put a positive spin on this for you, but what works for one doesn't always work for all. I have been extremely lucky, my dogs have loved their crates. |
