Default Dry nose

I know that a dry nose is supposed to indicate illness, but the other night Rocky's nose was dry, and he didnt seem to show any other signs or symptoms of being sick. He wasn't dehydrated either. Does anyone know why a dogs nose would be dry if they aren't sick?
