I heard, many years ago, so I'm not sure of the truth to this, that rawhide could be made of any "leftover" leather-type material. For example, I was told it might be made of leather seats from junked cars - which would have chemicals/dyes, etc. Now, I have no idea if that is true or not - but someone just said on another thread that her vet told her not to give rawhides due to chemicals. So, I think that unknown, combined with the choking hazard, makes rawhides a bad choice.
