I contacted my vet just to get some reassurance and he claims that it is perfectly normal to bleed for 20 or 25 days and that ovulation and fertilization can occur at this time. Perfectly normal? I told him that this certainly cannot be the norm because I have never seen it before.

I would take your bitch to the vet for a smear..it is very simple..and you can tell what is going on..ovulating, going out, infection...that is what 35 yrs of experince tells me..best wishes...
