Default car sick

My Jake used to get car sick if he was in a crate while in the car. Once I took him out of the crate and held him in my arms (my husband is driving of course) he did better. For some reason, though, he always got sick in a crate. I know that it's not safe for the pup to be unsecured in the vehicle, but if I needed to go somewhere with him that's the only way I could get him anywhere without puking and drooling. My vet suggested benadryl, but tyring to give it to him was traumatic so gave up on that.

I would start by taking the pup for short rides and gradually extend the amount of time in the car as he does better. My new pup, Zachary, has no problems with getting car sick, thankfully.
