make sure you compare the Ingredients to other brands, such as Nutro Ultra, Wellness. If you look at your bag and see any meat that has "by product" next to it, then thats a bad sign.

The Wellness Way: What Stays Out
No Animal-by-Products
Animal by-products may contain intestines, lungs, spleen, livers, kidneys, brains, blood, bone, stomachs, beaks, feathers, and feet. They can come from "4D" animals – that are Dead, Dying, Disabled, or Diseased. Pets should not eat by-products that are not fit for human consumption.
No Corn
Corn and corn by-products are commonly used as cheap fillers in many pet foods. They are a source of “empty calories” as they are low in vitamins and minerals.
No Wheat by-Products
Wheat by-products such as wheat millings and wheat mill run are cheap fillers derived from the leftovers from human food processing. And wheat is an allergen for many dogs and some cats.
No Soy
Soybean is an inexpensive way to get protein and bulk in pet foods. However, it is difficult to digest as it contains chemicals that block protein digestion. Soy is also a common allergen for cats and dogs.
No Dairy
Milk, dairy, and eggs cannot be digested by some dogs and cats. Because of this potential sensitivity, we do not use dairy in our products.
No Artificial Preservatives such as EQ, BHA, and BHT
Artificial preservatives are inappropriate for a daily diet, as they have no nutritional value and may be harmful in excess.
Scientific studies have linked EQ (ethoxyquin), BHA (Butylated hydroxyanisole), and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) with certain types of cancer in humans, and there is little information regarding the safety of long-term use for pets.
No Artificial Colors and Flavors
We believe that natural sources are the best for animals’ safety and well-being.
No Excessive Sweeteners
Beet pulp sugar, sucrose, and corn syrup are widely used. However, if they are used in excess they may put stress on the pancreas and adrenals, and could lead to diabetes.
No Excessive Salt
Salt is used by some manufacturers to increase palatability. We believe it should be used only at the low levels that are needed for cellular health. Excessive salt intake can lead to hypertension, kidney stress, colon irritation and many other ailments.
