I'm new to YT so I dont know everyone here. However, where I'm from it seems the trend is that SOME (not all there are plenty of good breeders) people are price gouging. Most of the prices I've encountered before I found the board were in the 2-3000 range, so I am currently trying to find a rescue match or less expensive yorkie. Although I do think that the expenses that occur with whelping puppies, vet bills, food, grooming etc. should be taken into account since it is an expenisve hobby, it's only fair, but I think the market for them allows it to be okay to price them higher in certain areas. I've seen some darling dogs with good breeders, and rude breeders in it for the profit and abuse the dogs. I recently visited some dogs in that price range and to be honest the sellers were living it up and it bothered me because the dogs were not in as good condition as their surroundings.
A lot of people say the pricing is to weed out people that can't provide for a dog, but I'm certain that many average people(people with kids, elderly on fixed incomes etc.) have a lot of love and resources for a pet.
Nonetheless I'm still looking even though prices have discouraged me in the search for a yorkie.
