Joy, Thanks! The only problem we encounter with "Toto" is that most everyone assumes that she is a boy!! The wee wee pad is the most wonderful thing ever invented!! Toto seldom gets her "Prissy Paws" on the ground so that's all she knows! The one word commands are great too. The only thing I miss about Louisiana is Paul [Toto's trainer]! He was just wonderful with her ... it was amazing! We had tried and tried to get her to tolerate her harness and leash and all she would do is flatten out on the floor and no amount of coaxing would get her to even stand up!! Ten minutes with Paul and you would've thought she had been on a leash all her life! She was the smallest dog he had worked with ... and they just hit it right off! He taught us as well. A few commands have 2-3 words ... for instance, when she is walking on the leash and gets the "slack" out or stops to sniff, you simply say "Stay with me" and she falls right back into pace! This is one tiny little girl who can take you on a walk!! Another command that we were all learning was ... if you want her to come to you ... hold your hand down near your shin and say "Right here". We certainly found that a good trainer can do wonders for these little energetic, wild babies! When we get settled here in Grand Junction, we are going to see if we can find someone like Paul. He actually trained "Service Dogs" ... if I could figure out how to get Toto certified as a service dog, she wouldn't have to stay in her carrier when we fly! I don't know what she could train for except to give peace of mind to her Mom ... I don't think that's a qualified service.
We have spent several winters with snow! Two in Chicago, one is Missouri ... last time in Colorado we only saw the fall and actually left during the first day of snow! We are kinda looking forward to it ... as long as we don't have to walk in it! Most of the "locals" here say that they don't get much snow ... hey! we're from Alabama ... if the ground is white, it's a big snow!!
Tell Louis that Toto does admire "handsome guys"! Keep us posted on the training ... and please share tips! When trying to train these spoiled babies ... any tips are helpful!
